a year agoWe enjoyed a looping trail route from Wellington State Park to Big Sugarloaf Mountain, and found a trail on the shores of Newfound lake has much to offer. There's a pleasant flat hike out to the secluded Goose Pond, and a mostly gentle climb up Big Sugarloaf - except for a steep section of trail because we approached it from the North. I'm glad we took a clockwise route though, because the best views are available as you hike back down. Be prepared to share the trail with mosquitos and ticks - particularly in the spring and summer months. Thankfully we enjoyed this hike on an early fall day and found no bugs whatsoever. I have a trail map of this and other NH hikes over at Trailspotting.com.

3 years agoView is actually better from Little Sugar Loaf. Goose Pond is picturesque and worth traveling around.
